Bowtie at McConnell Farm
Bowtie at McConnell FarmBowtie quilt square is located at McConnell Farm on S.R. 58. The pattern is one Roena Whitney McConnell was known to have used. She used mostly fabric scraps left over from sewing dresses for herself and her daughters. The square hangs at the farm where she was born and lived after her marriage to James A. McConnell. This pattern is also known to be part of the Underground Railroad Quilt Code, a nonverbal message system used by slaves and abolitionists to convey that escaped slaves should dress in disguise to avoid being captured. It was painted by the McConnell Family. Installed by Lorain Medina Rural Electric Cooperative.

Americana at Days of Yore
Americana at Days of YoreAmericana Block is at the Day’s of Yore Herb and Flower Farm on Jones Rd. This colorful pattern incorporates red, white, and blue fabric. Patriotic in nature, it was a common sight at early state fairs and continues to be a popular pattern among modern quilters. It was painted by the staff of Days of Yore and installed by Lorain Medina Rural Electric. Since 1976, Donna Lange has resided on her Jones Road farm. The former diary farm is comprised of 36 Lush Acres. On it sits the “big barn” which was constructed sometime around 1850. Lang chose the Americana design in an effort to pay tribute to the service men in her family: Her husband, son, and two grandsons–Representing the U.S. Navy, Army, Marines and the Cost Guard.
